Wedderburn... This is is not a great novel in the classic sense but it was one of those books I had to read (audible version) because it was based on a real life murder that happened on a small farm just outside Wedderburn which is where I went to primary school. It does resonate how a small town reacts to a murder like this. The townspeople and victims family were quite angry that this book was released only a few years after the murders. You know the townspeople would normally think things like this happen in the big cities. Even then there is denial that the people involved were locals , they had only lived in the area for 15 years..
Catcher in the Rye. I guess by picking this one it shows I probably dont read many novels these days. But it is one of those novels that come to mind when people ask you what is the best books you have read. I still remember reading it as part of HSC english. I do wonder what would someone like Holden Caulfield be in todays world especially with all the problems in USA, I think he would be lost even more than he was back then.
The Thorn Birds. I always enjoy a good story based in the outback or rural Australia. This one also had a very good story line which I guess it is why it is Australias best seller.
Tomorrow when the war began. I remeber my son had this for one of his novels in secondary school and I decided to read it onhis recommendation. It was a good story and kept you interested. Could it happen you just wake up and you are in a war. Well after the last couple of years we need to believe anything can happen.
Now I really enjoy reading the newspaper and keeping up with current affairs here and overseas. Usually these days it maybe the digital version but I still enjoy getting a newspaper.
